About This Item

Born in a small village just north of Condrieu, Louis Clerc always knew he wanted to work in wine. He came, however, from a family of agriculturists who specialized not in grapes but fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other forms of produce. He went to school for agronomy and began his professional life working with fruit trees, where he stayed for many decades. Never letting go of his dream, in 1991 he finally decided he had waited long enough and purchased land in both the Condrieu and Côte Rôtie appellations. In 2000, Clerc entirely overhauled his winemaking facility bringing the winery into the modern era, installing inox cuves with temperature control among other investments. Shortly after Louis’s wife, Monique, and son, Martin, began working with him, learning the trade, and developing a passion of their own. Unfortunately, Louis Clerc lost his life in 2007. His son would take on his father’s dream after studying in Burgundy and several winemaking experiments in France and in the southern hemisphere. Martin Clerc has entirely taken over the family Domaine and since 2013 has been responsible for winemaking. Today, the Domaine produces on 8.5 hectares: 4 ha in Côte Rôtie, 2 ha in Condrieu, and 2.5 ha planted to Viognier and Syrah in Tupin Simont. This stunning bottling embodies the elegant sexy side of Côte-Rôtie and has a beautiful, polished personality – a showstopper. As soon as we tasted it, we knew we had to lock some down for our Master Members to enjoy this fall. This wine will only continue to improve with age, and we cannot wait to see how this is drinking 10 years from now. Grab a case and put those puppies to bed.
