About This Item

Mastroberardino is one of Campania’s most renowned wineries with an impressive legacy that is largely responsible for the viticultural success of Campania's remote Irpinia area. Established in the 1750’s by winemaker Pietro di Mastro Berardino, the Mastroberardino family have earned themselves a reputation as guardians and protectors of Campania’s indigenous grape varietals. The family has not only worked to preserve native varietals but has successfully showcased these nearly extinct grapes on the world stage, crafting wines of distinction and age-worthiness. The winery suffered significant damage during WWII, the result of economic hardships, phylloxera, neglect, and war. The family worked tirelessly to restore the land which they were bound to, replanting existing vineyards, and purchasing the best land they could find to focus on revitalizing Campania’s three ancient varietals of Fiano, Greco, and Aglianico. Today, Mastroberardino’s production has grown to 14 wine estates across Campania, covering 314 hectares, all situated in the heart of the three DOCG production areas of Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, and Taurasi. Radici means “roots” in Italian, signifying Mastroberardino’s devotion to safeguarding the indigenous varieties of ancient Irpinia. Fiano d'Avellino is an ancient vine of Campania that produces a lush dry wine that possesses an inherent ability to age beautifully. Traditionally found near hazelnut orchards, the wine seems to have adopted many of these notes into its flavor profile showing aromas of toasted nuts, honey and spring flowers. The wine sees five months of aging on the lees to add weight and complexity to this noble white wine.
