About This Item

Valravn is the brainchild of two formidable individuals with Baron Ziegler driving the business and Rob Fischer crafting the wines. A native of Minnesota, Ziegler began buying Bordeaux futures at the age of 15, the sale of which later funded the down payment for a condo while at Boston University. By the age of 21, he was working for a wine retail shop purchasing wine by the container and went on to become the National Sales Director for James Beard Award-winning wine importer, Eric Solomon. In 2007, he moved to California, and two years later he founded Banshee Wines followed by many other projects including Valravn. Fisher, a native of Napa Valley, had no intention of going into winemaking until he landed a job at the tasting room of Domaine Carneros. What was intended to be a summer job soon turned into a series of fortuitous opportunities that quickly jumpstarted Fischer's winemaking career. From their established network of friends and colleagues that includes landowners, growers, and winemakers the pair has been able to gain access to fantastic vineyard sites to produce the Valravn wines. The first vintage came in 2014 when the opportunity to work with old vine Zinfandel near Healdsburg presented itself.

Ziegler and Fischer continue to seek out similar opportunities and for their inaugural vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon were fortunate to source high quality fruit from Alexander Valley, Moon Mountain, and Russian River Valley. The combination of aspects and soil types allow them to blend the components for a seamless composition. This wine is approachable right out of the gate, delicious, and ready to enjoy now!
