About This Item

Bodegas Muga is one of the most iconic producers in Rioja.  Founded in 1832 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, it is still run by the family today.  They focus mostly on aged reds producing several different Reservas and Gran Reservas, but none of the younger Crianza styles.  Their wines like Muga Reserva, Prado Enea Gran Reserva, and Aro are deep, complex, and collectible gems made from grapes carefully hand sorted for the best quality.  With all of the ageing going on, they use so many barrels that they are the only cellar in Spain to have their own coopers on staff.  It’s not just the ageing.  All of the winemaking is done in barrel: fermentation, ageing, storing.  You’ll be hard pressed to find a stainless steel tank anywhere in the facility.  They are masters of the finesse of wood.  Their whites and rosés are made by coaxing the body and complexity from the barrel without taking on the vanilla, buttery, and woody flavors.

This rosé is a typical blend using both red and white grapes from the region.  It rivals the best French rosés from Provence or Bandol.  Fresh, dry, and aromatic, it’s a big and elegant step up from your everyday porch pounder.
