About This Item

Brothers Lyle and Eric Railsback began Railsback Fre`res in 2014 as a product of French spirit grown in California soils. Both fre`res or brothers have a deep love of French wine and tenure in the American wine industry. Lyle works in National Sales for the iconic importer Kermit Lynch. Eric owns Verve Wine, a retailer with locations in New York City as well as San Francisco and is the founder of Lieu Dit Winery in Santa Barbara. Lieu Dit is inspired by the Loire Valley with a focus on grapes like Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Franc. As Eric’s second venture into winemaking, Railsback Fre`res is inspired by the southern part of France and the unique grapes that grow there: Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourve`dre.

The first wine out of Railsback Fre`res was a Bandol style rose´. The Cuve´e Spe´cial Le Carignan came later by combining inspiration from Maxime Magnon, a trailblazing producer in Corbie`res, and the “Gang of Four” who revitalized the winemaking of Cru Beaujolais to make it what it is today. Magnon is known for his Carignan-based field blends and thus is the grape of choice in this Cuve´e Spe´ciale. The winemaking comes from Beaujolais as the grapes go through partial carbonic maceration: a technique where fermentation starts inside the grape itself. The result is a wine that is juicy-fruited but balanced with an underlying savory herbaceousness.
