About This Item

When Nathalie Fabre and her husband Patrick took over her family’s vineyards in 2000, they became the 4th generation to farm in Cha^teauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards had been passed down through her mother’s side of the family but Nathalie and Patrick are the first to make their own wine as the grapes were previously sold to the local co-op. In addition to their 3.5 hectares of Cha^teauneuf-du-Pape vineyards, they also have 7 hectares of old- vine Co^tes-du-Rho^ne and Co^tes-du-Rho^ne Village plantings, all of which they converted to certified organics through the 2000s.

Cha^teauneuf-du-Pape was the first wine appellation to be established in France (1936) and is now one of its greatest. Meaning “pope’s new castle,” the name dates back to the 1300s when the seat of the Roman Catholic Church was in Avignon. These days it is often abbreviated by sommeliers as simply “CdP.” The wines are typically a Grenache based blend but between the whites and the reds, 13 different grapes are allowed in the region and another 7 can unofficially be found. CdP is big, bold, and ageworthy with notes of plum and blackberry. It is also known for its distinct savory and sometimes gamey quality, showing wild herbs and leather.
